The spirit of stagnation is a device that the enemy loves to send to the saints to stop them from getting the will of God done. It works! The world is littered with ways to make our lives easier, which sometimes are not a bad thing, but in some cases they are. Throughout this article, look inside yourself to see if you have any signs of stagnation. If you detect some signs, no worries, we will deal with them at the end of this blog. Let’s dive in!
What Is Stagnation
Stagnation is a situation in which something stays the same and does not grow and develop.
Just by the definition, you will know if your life has been in a stagnant state. There are so many traits that a person has when they are stagnant. If you can look at your life now and see that it’s the same from last year, then you have to break this cycle today.
We should be forever evolving until the day we go on to glory! God is always doing a new thing and if you are in obedience, you are doing the new thing with Him. So if your life is stagnant, it means you are in disobedience to the last thing He told you to do.
Let that marinate. Repent and decide today that you are going to move your life forward!
Who Does Stagnation Partner With?
Remember when Jesus said demons will go get seven more and come back? Keep that in mind. When a demon enters a person, they enter in groups. Demons are well-organized, and they hang out in groups of similarity because they are stronger this way. When you have stagnation in your life, you will see similar traits manifesting in your everyday life.
So allow me to introduce you to stagnation and some of his family members. Remember to check yourself to make sure his family members don’t live in your house, rent-free. If so, they have to be evicted today!
Stagnation’s Mother’s Name Is DISTRACTIONS!!!
Whatever possesses your attention when you know you should be building your ministry, business or getting the degree, has your destiny on lock for the time it has your attention. Most distractions are a complete waste of your time. The distractions are keeping you stagnant. We don’t have a lot of time left, and we should do everything possible to get the will of God accomplished. You better believe Satan is using every minute he has to get his will done and to stop you from getting God’s will done.
Stagnation’s Father – Slumber And Sluggard Spirit!
Are you one to sleep all the time? You have to take naps throughout the day? You can’t get up an hour earlier to pray because you just have to have every single minute to sleep? The Bible calls this a device of the enemy! Don’t allow the bed to steal your power! The slumber spirit is a powerful tool that the enemy uses to help you waste your time and to keep you stagnant. The time you slept, you could have completed a task to move your life forward.
Delay Is Stagnation’s Twin Brother!
Delay means a period of time by which something is late or postponed. Don’t allow your destiny to be postponed! Imagine you are supposed to be a millionaire at twenty-five, but you haven’t done what God told you. Now you are fifty-two and still working at the bank (there is absolutely nothing wrong with working at the bank unless you are supposed to be a millionaire). This is what we call a delayed season.
Setback And Stagnation Are Sisters!!
The devil’s desire is to have you stagnant to where you have missed the season you were supposed to be in. He relies on Saints being disobedient to the instructions of God. If the Saint is disobedient and does not do the instructions God gave them when He asked them to do it, this can cause the saint to miss the season they were intended to be in.
If you are not in position or in the right season, then the devil will take advantage of that, and he will move forward with his assignment. By obeying God and being at the correct place at the correct time, you could have prevented the devil’s assignment. The devil will have every right to do so because the Saint gave him a legal right because of their disobedience of not moving when God told them to.
Now the Saint has to play catch up to get to the correct season in their life if they waited too long! This is what we call a setback!

Stagnation’s Cousin — Envy/Jealousy
Envy and jealousy develops from comparing yourself to others that are moving their lives forward.
Stagnation’s Aunt – Bitterness and Resentment
Bitterness and resentment shows up when you look back on the years you’ve wasted. You may blame others for why your life didn’t proceed forward. Take responsibility for your actions.
Stagnation’s Uncle — Procrastination!
Stop putting things off! Do it now! If it’s a hard task, make it the first thing you do in the morning. That way, before you start your day, the task is already done, and you feel accomplished.
Signs of the Spirit of Stagnation Is Working In Your Life
These are a few signs that stagnation has a hold on you.
- Regardless of what you do, you can’t get ahead
- When you get ahead, an event happens, that throws you back to square one
- You are easily distracted
- You compare yourself to others all the time (When a person is focused on themselves, they don’t have time to focus on what others are doing)
Dreams God Is Warning You Of Stagnation In Your Life
Always pray to ask God what does this dream mean? Every so often God will give you a dream of you interacting with someone from your past because you need to reconcile a situation. Typically, when you have a dream of you enjoying yourself at your former high school or any of the following, it could be a sign that you are stagnant or the devil is planning to make you stagnant. Pray to ask God for the interpretation. Bind and rebuke the spirit of stagnation unless God tells you otherwise.
Here are some warning signs of stagnation your dreams.
- Dreams back in high school
- Dreams at your childhood home
- Dreams back at your old job
- Dreams of you hanging out with former friends doing things you used to do
How To Target and Destroy Stagnation In Your Life
Let’s start with the natural components first. TURN OFF SOCIAL MEDIA!! If you are not promoting your business, your ministry or making money from social media, what is it doing for your life except wasting your time? That time you’re burning on Instagram could be used to develop your business God gave you years ago! It could build your ministry God granted you months ago.
Eliminate all distractions first! Then eliminate each of the family members of stagnation that are operating in your life. Then go through your day-to-day routine and structure an everyday plan for a productive life. Include three tasks a day that will get you moving forward towards your goal. Do them in the morning before you start your day. Do this for ninety days. You should see a change. Once you have corrected the physical things in your life, and you haven’t seen your life move forward, then you need to take it to prayer.
Consult God and go on a fast and don’t come off the fast until the spirit of delay and stagnation is broken off your life.
Do you want to become an elderly person looking back at your life and wishing you did things differently? No, you don’t! You have the time to do what God has called you to do right now! The problem is: We take time and life for granted.

The Bible says James 4:13-16 NLT 13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” 16 Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.
